UNIQUE APTITUDE TEST FOR DESIGN CAREERS

Almost all parent and teacher emphasis right through a child’s schooling is on doing well in conventional subjects such as math, science, languages history and geography. This provides no chance for the child to explore his/her creativity and design aspirations. The odd art and craft class is looked upon as a hobby class or waste of time. In this conventional education system no specific technique has been evolved to assess the child’s creative and design abilities. Conventionally, Psychometric Aptitude tests are used for 90% aptitude tests worldwide. Typically, Psychometric tests cover the following areas;
Logical reasoning
Verbal reasoning
Spatial ability
Abstract reasoning
Numerical ability
Mechanical reasoning

They evaluate mainly the logical, numeric or linguistic abilities of a child (the intelligence Quotient or IQ). Based on result of these tests counselors can only suggest whether students can go in for conventional careers such as medicine, engineering, accounting and finance which mainly require a logical aptitude. These tests clearly fail to check he creative and design aptitude of a child and therefore fail to counsel for creative and design careers such as fashion designing, product designing, animation, commercial art etc.
Unique and appropriate Aptitude tests are therefore required to guide the students to take a proper career and a course.

BACH TO SCHOOL?

Or rather college as we put it here in India! Life as is famously said is very unpredictable. Thus while you might have charted out a career and hence an education path for yourself it need not follow the course you planned. Many a times due to several personal reasons education is put on a back burner. When life’s creases are eventually ironed out education does come to the foreground again. Of course in some cases it is a question of priority and career takes over education and maybe later education takes centre stage once again.
In such cases it isn’t easy to pick up the threads of education from where you left. Irrespective of whether you dropped out of college or took a break and have got back to studying, picking up the books, attending classes and making friends is not easy as it sounds. Then there is a greater fear exam. Excelling in exams to prove a point to yourself and probably to all your detractors is an uphill task. Yet come to think of it once you have bagged that degree the satisfaction you get and the value it adds to your CV is above all these minor hurdles.
